"A tronie, a made up character, partly based on Donatello’s brilliant sculpture of the penitent Mary Magdalene. Sometimes I want to try different techniques and a portrait is a bold way in which to do so. This is pure aquatint sugarlift painted directly on a plate, a very painterly tecnique of etching.
