Biography
enneth Martin (1905–1984) was a leading figure in British Constructivism whose work explored systems, geometry, and the aesthetics of ordered structure. Beginning as a figurative painter, Martin shifted toward abstraction in the 1940s before developing his celebrated “chance and order” drawings and kinetic sculptures. These works balance rigorous mathematical principles with elements of unpredictability.
Martin exhibited widely, and his sculptures became integral to postwar public art in the UK. His works are held in Tate, the V&A, and international museums. Martin's legacy lies in his disciplined yet exploratory approach to structure, making him one of the central practitioners of British Systems art.
