Sometimes I paint a portrait of someone I don’t know, but is a made up character.
These paintings can happen quite accidentally: I took the wrong brush out of my palette which had this orange on it which did set it off.
When I was young, I hennaed my hair which, being bright orange, made me stand out.
I remember how electrifying it was to have that kind of hair.
